Crest Recordings

Here is the Crest story:

Evolution of Crest:
My name is Scott Bennett and it has been a goal of mine to have my own Square Dance music production company. I researched the idea and even had a studio worked out to start making music back in 2003. Following advice from some of my producer friends, I decided to become a recording artist first, and then work on the label. I have done the recording artist thing for 10 years now, so if I am ever going to make this happen it is time to start.

I enjoy many types of music and I have been so glad that the record producers have blazed a trail with many hits that I would say are not the “traditional” Square Dance music. My intentions are to build songs from genres that I like and I hope you will like! I have given tune suggestions to some of the producers and some of my ideas have been made into SD songs, but I guess I feel it is time to try and make the music myself!

Special thanks to some of the producers:
I want to give a special thanks to a few producers for their vast knowledge and time in helping me understand the way to make SD music.
Paul Bristow, Paul Cote, Wade Driver, Tony Oxendine, Jerry Story and Buddy Weaver.

Music selection/arrangement:
Crest Recordings will feature tunes from different eras and genres that will include as much “real” music as I can manage. I plan to use instruments that are “real and relevant” to the original flavor of the song and mix them around so that it is not just the same sound “7 times through”. I intend to have “leads” (guide melody line) that are at a little lower in volume so that they do not get in the way and I provide will a "no-lead” (no guide melody line) version, try to keep the “key” in a range for people like me who need to be more toward the “middle”. I want to turn the “fills” up just enough to let them stand out without having to use the remote volume control! If I use any “brackground” vocals (BGVs) they will include a “no-brackground” vocal (no BGVs) version as well. I want to stay true to the song where I can, while realizing that “call-ability and dance-ability” need to come first!

Crest along with Buzzy Smith of Houston, TX started a sound that I want to continue to develop and it is a sound I want to preserve. So I created Acme Recordings which allows me to feature music from "other" studios/musicians as well as Buzz Smith Music. I assure you that the music will be great or I will not release it. Acme will also feature friends as guest artists when I think they fit the flavor of the song.

Peak Recordings will offer those of you who have the time. talent and money an opportunity to record your very own SD song! If this is something that you are interested in contact me and I will explain how to do that!

Getting Crest Recordings:
I will sell my music for the “going rate” in a “high bitrate mp3” format downloadable from this website and payable via “PayPal” to give everyone a safe and easy way to pay.
